Belize is such a great place for a more adventurous honeymoon. In fact Central America in general is just fantastic – great beaches, surf, incredible diving, rainforest, volcanoes, wildlife, ancient ruins and just about any adventure activity you can think of.
Just like the Vietnam Honeymoon I designed, this trip was about getting to the heart and soul of the country, whilst also enjoying a bit of relaxation and pampering. This couple were quite happy to have a couple of nights of simplicity to benefit from some authentic home-stay hospitality. This also allowed them to push the boat out and splurge on a more extravagent beach hotel for their first stop. Budget was around £4.5k-£5k which was quite a challenge with the 5* Victoria House included, but we weren’t far off!
Fly from London to Houston today where you will have a stop over at an airport hotel, it’s nothing fancy but should be clean and comfortable.
This morning a shuttle back to the airport has you connecting onto your international flight on to Belize.
On arrival you will be met by one of our local partners who will greet you and assist you with check in for your brief light flight across to Ambergris Caye.
On arrival at San Pedro airstrip you’ll be met for a brief golfbuggy transfer to your hotel.
At leisure on Ambergris Caye, home to palm-fringed, white sand beaches, turquoise waters and some of the best
snorkelling in Belize!
At leisure on Ambergris Caye – you can arrange activities such as a flight over the Blue Hole, snorkel at Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley or simply relax on the beach with a cold Belikin beer.
Relax by the Azul blue waters of the Caribbean coast.
You will be transferred back to the airstrip for your light flight to Punta Gorda via Belize Municipal.
On arrival into Punta Gorda it will become rather evident that you are off the tourist track. You’ll be met by a
representative of Hickatee Cottages and taken to your lodge.
Today I have organised a small group tour to see the cacao farming in the region. After spending the morning seeing the cacao farming process (and of course tasting some of the product!) you will have lunch with a local Mayan family and then spend the afternoon swimming at Blue Creek Cave.
At leisure. You could visit local citrus plantations, enjoy some rainforest walks in search of birds and other wildlife, or simply soak up the local Caribbean culture in sleepy Punta Gorda village.
Saying goodbye to the quiet town of Punta Gorda and travel up the beautiful Hummingbird Highway to the Western Cayo
District. Settle into your rainforest lodge at leisure this afternoon. After dinner enjoy a group night hike around the lodges grounds and discover which nocturnal animals are in the area.
Optional (extra cost): On route to the Western Cayo District, you can stop off at the blue hole national park. Whilst you wont see ‘THE’ blue hole, you can enjoy exploring the stunning nature reserve and even take a dip in a lagoon or 2.
Today I’ve suggested an optional excursion (extra cost); a fantastic adventure. Floating through Chukka’s Crystal Caves, admiring the natural formations as you go river tubing. Then after lunch, and a change of clothes into something dry, you have the opportunity to challenge Tarzan and fly through the canopy on a zip-line!
Black Rock River Lodge has about 6 miles of walking trails that you can explore at your leisure as well as offering a range of local excursions (extra cost) you can book ad-hoc such as to the ruins at Caracol, cave canoeing, wildlife walks, horse-riding and more.
Black Rock run an excursion called “walk on the wildside” which includes a brief canoe ride, a hike, nature spotting and some swimming at leisure. This trip has had fantastic guest feedback and can be booked in advance for an additional cost – highly recommended!
Enjoy your last chance to watch the sun rise over the river valley and forest canopy around you before you transfer back to the airport for your overnight flight home via the USA.
Welcome home for a honeymoon packed with memories and adventure. Have a safe onward journey.
